General information on the location of El Copal

El Copal is a small hotel in the Mermejita Beach, in the town of Mazunte, Municipality of Sta. Maria Tonameca, in the Coast of Oaxaca.

In order to arrive to Mazunte:

By airplane: you may fly to the airport of Puerto Escondido or the one at Huatulco. Car rental is available in them, or a taxi o collective transport can be boarded either in the airport or the village. Both places are approximately one hour trip by the coastal road Pinotepa - Arriaga, or approximately two hours in collective transportation.

By Bus or automobile:

  • Via the City of Oaxaca, take the road that connects the city through the Mountain Range to Pochutla or the one to Puerto Escondido. From any of these two Villages you may continue driving, by communitarian transport or taxi, to Mazunte. Pochutla is to approximately 25 minutes by road.
  • Via the coastal road from Acapulco, take the south direction, the road to Pinotepa – Puerto Escondido. From Puerto Escondido, Mazunte is before arriving at Pochutla

In order to get to Mazunte by road, either from Pochutla, Huatulco or Puerto Escondido, the coastal road is clearly signalized and is easy to notice the signal that indicates the road that drives you to the beaches of Mazunte, Zipolite and Puerto Angel. The road to Mazunte is also clearly signalized.

Once you take the road to Mazunte, after 5 km you will arrive directly at the heart of the town of Mazunte.

In order to get to "El Copal" once you are in Mazunte:

The road previously mentioned goes across Mazunte, in the corner with "Rinconcito" street (That’s the streets name) there is "the Dolce Vita" , Italian Pizzas, and an Argentine barbecue "Che Bolú", There you’ll find a wooden sign to guide you to El Copal. Go along that street (A compacted sand street) and 150 Mts ahead, another street raises towards the right (another wood sign there for El Copal), when that street finishes raising, walking besides the town’s graveyard, a new street division appears, three streets show, one to the left, one to the right and other one going straight ahead. You go through this last one (Another wooden sign will guide you), the street it begins to descend and it continues towards Mermejita Beach, about 250 meters ahead there is a deviation to the left (New signal) and there is El Copal. You cannot be mistaken; El Copal is the logging facility in Mermejita Beach. In fact, El Copal is located in the same rocky formation that constitutes "Punta Cometa".

The walking distance to the Mermejita Beach right from El Copal’s door is approximately of 20 meters. To Rinconcito Beach, or to the center of the town is of 700 meters or ten minutes walking.
